In Jordanian culture food is much more than simply a matter of nourishment. Dining is a preoccupation and food is usually the main event at social gatherings. Eating rituals are very important in all Middle Eastern countries, and guests are always treated like royalty, guests will surely have vast platters of food produced to honor their visit. A 'Jordanian invitation' means that the guest is expected to bring nothing and eat everything provided by the host.

“Mansaf” is Jordan’s national dish. It is made up of lamb seasoned with different fragrant herbs, and cooked in dried yoghurt also known as “Jameed”. It is served on a large platter with lots of rice, sprinkled with almonds, pine kernels, and other nuts. Mansaf is considered a delicacy and hours are spent in preparation. Mansaf is often served on special occasions such as wedding and birthdays. This extravagant dish has certain etiquette; it should be eaten by hand.
