As a tourist, you will have limited opportunities to enjoy dinners at Armenian homes, but if you are invited, by all means go! The Armenian cuisine has a big variety of salads and vegetarian recipes but also delicious soups, meat dishes and is known for its savoury pastries such as su beureg and mante. All of which are infused with delicious and fresh herbs and spices .The preparation of meat, fish, and vegetable dishes in an Armenian kitchen requires stuffing, frothing,
and puréeing. Lamb, eggplant, mayonnaise, yogurt, and bread are basic features of Armenian cuisine. Fresh and dried fruits and nuts are also common in Armenian food.
The national dish of Armenia is the Harissa, it is from the Ararat plain. Armenian harissa, also known as keshkeg, is similar to a risotto but made with pearl barley instead of rice. Its ingredients include chicken, butter and tons of spices such as allspice, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and cumin.
